“Every file deserves the same approach I learned on the farm and major construction sites—show up prepared, do what you said you’d do, and stand behind your work.”
Born and raised on a farm near historic Leduc No. 1, Owen is one of Alberta’s few fully bilingual civil litigators. He combines courtroom experience across three provinces with hands-on construction industry expertise and specialized knowledge in legal technology.
Called to the Alberta bar in 2021 and the British Columbia bar in 2024, Owen practices commercial litigation, construction law (CCDC contracts, new home warranty claims, builders’ liens), employment and human rights law, municipal law, personal injury and insurance, estate disputes, defamation, intellectual property disputes and general civil matters. Owen also handles residential and rural real estate transactions, estate planning, corporate matters, and commercial contract review.
Before law school, Owen worked in heavy-duty construction, electrical, utilities, and trades. He holds certifications including helicopter power-lineman training and managed projects for international utility companies. This background informs his approach to construction disputes, commercial matters, and technical litigation.
Owen has appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice, Alberta Court of King’s Bench, Provincial Court of British Columbia, Alberta Human Rights Tribunal, Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal, Social Security Tribunal of Canada – Employment Insurance Commission, and in domestic and international arbitrations including under the American ArbitrationÂ
As a former Legal Editor with LexisNexis, Owen developed French-language, AI-assisted legal research tools. This experience gives him insight into the intersection of law, language rights, and emerging technology. Committed to access to justice and French-language legal rights, Owen is a member of l’Association des juristesÂ
Outside the office, Owen brings the same discipline and competitiveness he developed as a AAA-level, Junior B, and university hockey player, along with the resilience and work ethic shaped by growing up on the Prairies.
