This is a class action against Smith & Nephew, the manufacturer of the Birmingham partial hip replacement. The claim alleges negligence on behalf of the Defendant. For failing to adhere to those standards set out in the regulations.
The allegations are that the action of the metal-on-metal friction of the cap and cup has resulted in the abrasion of the metal alloy of chromium, cobalt, and molybdenum. Persons suffering from metallosis can experience any or a combination of

Extreme pain (even when not moving), Swelling and inflammation, Loosening of the implant, Dislocation, Bone deterioration, Aseptic fibrosis, local necrosis, Hip replacement failure, Metal toxicity from grinding metal components, and necessary subsequent hip replacement revision or surgeries.
