Michael Gregory / Calgary Board of Education (CBE) Alleged Sexual Assaults

Defendants: The Estate of Michael Gregory, and The Calgary Board of Education (CBE)

Summary: A Class Action lawsuit has been filed against Michael Gregory and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). Gregory was a licensed teacher for the Calgary Board of Education, teaching at John Ware Junior High School in Calgary between 1989 and 2006. While employed for CBE, Gregory allegedly abused his authority and used it to sexually assault approximately 200 young girls.

According to allegations, Gregory systematically groomed and sexually abused hundreds of junior high school students while he was a teacher for the CBE. Sexually-inappropriate things which Gregory was accused of doing during his employment includes, but are not limited to the following. Gregory would encourage or demand students to disrobe in front of him. He would touch them, often in a sexual manner, often while erect. Gregory would communicate with students outside of school, often in a sexual manner. Sexual intercourse with minors and rape. Gregory would also allegedly threaten students with consequences and retaliation should they report his wrongdoings.

It is important to keep in mind that these girls were in junior high school and were below the age of consent. Therefore, even if these children agreed to sexual intercourse with Mr. Gregory they could not legally have consented.

Gregory would allegedly utilize his status and authority to groom and manipulate the children in a number of ways. He would bring them to his private residence. He would make sexual jokes and make inappropriate comments. He would humiliate young girls in front of other students. He would buy them gifts, including but not limited to, jewelry, drugs, and alcohol. He told these girls he “loved them” and would sign his gifts “Love Mike”. He told girls he would include them in his will. These are only some of the twisted things that people have claimed Michael Gregory did to them while a teacher for the Calgary Board of Education.

Multiple students and their families reported these assaults to the CBE, with little-to-no action being taken. It is the stance of Guardian Law Group and the plaintiffs, that more action should have been taken by the Calgary Board of Education, and that if further steps were taken once the abuse was reported to them that many victims could have been saved.

Mr. Gregory died in 2021. At the time of his death, he was facing 17 criminal sexual-misconduct charges. His estate is now listed in the case as a defendant.
