Emmanuel is an internationally trained lawyer from the Philippines. He was born and raised in Baguio City, Philippines. He finished his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science, and Bachelor of Laws at Saint Louis University, Baguio City.
After passing the Philippine Bar Exams in 1997, he joined the government service and worked with the Public Attorney’s Office, one of the agencies attached to the Department of Justice. From 1997 to 2010, he worked as a Public Attorney, also known as a Public Defender. Most of his clients were poor and indigent individuals. He defended and represented these clients in criminal law, civil litigation, administrative law, labor, and employment law. In addition, he appeared and litigated all levels of trial courts in the Philippines, including administrative tribunals and quasi-judicial bodies.
In 2013, he took his Certificate of Qualifications to practice law in Canada and was certified in 2015. However, it took him a few years before he completed his student-at-law articling in 2021-2022 with Canphil Law, a small boutique law firm in Calgary.
During the interregnum, he worked as a Contract Coordinator with Alberta Health Services – Addiction and Mental Health Services.
While articling, he gained experience in Family Law, Divorce Law, Criminal Law, Real Estate, Wills and Estate, and Civil Litigation (small claims). He also accepted and handled Legal Aid clients.
He was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in July 2022.
Emmanuel is now an Associate Lawyer at Guardian Law Group. He now assists clients in the areas of civil litigation, labor and employment and handles personal injury claims.
Emmanuel is a good-standing member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
When not working, Emmanuel enjoys cooking for his family. In addition, he enjoys traveling and long drives and plays basketball.
He is fluent in English, Tagalog, and Ilokano, a local Filipino dialect.
