Born in Regina, Saskatchewan as the son of a Canadian soldier and a teacher, Jonathan graduated with degrees in commerce and law at age 24. After graduation, Jonathan moved to Calgary where he was called to the Alberta bar as a lawyer in 2001 and worked as a key member of one of Canada’s national law firms.

Jonathan was elected MLA for Calgary-Egmont (later Calgary-Acadia) in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. In addition to his duties as a legislator, Jonathan has served in several senior cabinet roles, including Parliamentary Assistant for Energy, Minister of Housing, Solicitor General, Minister of Public Security, Provincial Secretary, Minister of Justice, Attorney General, and Government House Leader.

Jonathan’s practice focuses primarily on corporate and commercial law and public affairs consulting. He is founder of CONTACT Public Affairs, a legal and government relations firm based in Calgary. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Liberty West Properties Inc. and Senergy Petroleum Exploration Ltd.

Jonathan is frequently invited as a guest speaker to organizations and charities in Alberta. He has received numerous accolades including being named to the Queen’s Counsel of Alberta and one of Avenue Magazine’s “Top 40 Under 40”.
